Mission
Our mission is to decode, diagnose, and deliver treatment for complex gastrointestinal and neuroimmune conditions, particularly those that defy easy classification or care.
Through foundational research, hands-on clinical work, and compassionate care, our aim is to restore dignity, nourishment, and hope to patients living with severe GI dysmotility disorders.
Vision
Our vision is to establish a standard of practice where advanced diagnostics and individualized therapies for neurogastroenterologic conditions are routine, a healthcare landscape where the nervous system and Gi tract are treated as one integrated system and science is deeply human.
Why This Work Matters
Neuroenteric diseases affect more than a quarter of adults in the United States, yet they remain poorly understood and often misdiagnosed. We wee firsthand how patients with gastroparesis and other motility disorders are dismissed, miscategorized, or subjected to incomplete care. There are huge gaps in what we don’t know about normal function, let alone pathology. And closing those gaps is the whole purpose of this work.
Many of the patients we see come to us after years of frustration. They’ve been told their symptoms are psychosomatic. They’ve felt isolated, debilitated, and unheard. We have a patient with severe gastroparesis. She’s on TPN. What she wants most is to get married and get on with her life. That’s what keeps us going… helping her, and others like her, find a way forward.

What Makes Our Work Different
We’ve spent decades studying how inflammation, muscle injury, and nerve dysfunction interact to disrupt GI motility. Our work brings together bioimaging, engineering, immunobiology, and patient care in a unified approach. Research for these patients is nothing short of a lifeline.
The Work In Our Lab & Clinic Includes:
- Investigating the immune-neural interface that drives conditions like gastroparesis
- Designing organoid cultures to test treatments patient by patient
- Developing non-invasive diagnostic imaging using novel diffusion techniques
- Exploring endosurgical and implantable solutions for long-term immunomodulation
